Announcing Open Hours @ Te Pokapū | The Hub

Wondering what the ‘Digital’ Humanities are and what all the fuss is about?

Hoping to connect with others for pointers on digital tools or resources?

Looking to start a digital project but don’t know where to begin?

Starting from Friday 26th October, Open Hours will provide a weekly opportunity to explore the Digital Humanities Hub | Te Pokapū Matihiko o Te Kete Aronui, and chat with a Humanities Librarian to find out more about the ‘Digital Humanities’ (or DH) at Otago and beyond.

This collaboration between the OU Library and the Otago DH group will offer a gentle introduction to digital thinking, tools, methods and projects for humanities research and teaching. We hope to create an open forum for asking questions, exchanging ideas and methods, and forming connections with colleagues across ‘Digital’ Humanities at Otago.

Drop-in at any time during Open Hours for a general introduction to the Hub and the ‘field’ of DH. Each week will also focus on a different theme or topic, and propose a reading and project or tool to explore. Topics will cover:

  • particular sets of methods such as Text Analysis,
  • how different disciplines like Classics or History are engaging with digital possibilities,
  • areas of digital competence such as data management or digital privacy, and
  • issues and ideas around the digital with/in Humanities

Announcements of the topic and reading will be made a week in advance, so that you have time to prepare if you wish, and we will be using the Library DH Guide for ongoing reference.

Whether you are new to the field and would like to learn more, or have experience with existing projects that you want to share, we warmly invite you to stop by!

WHEN: 12pm – 2pm, every Friday starting 26th October 2018

WHERE: Digital Humanities Hub, Room 1W3, First Floor, Arts Building
